Frequently Asked Questions
How is HMX Indirect Evaporative Cooling (IEC) different from Direct Evaporative Cooling (DEC)?
At the heart of HMX Indirect Evaporative Cooling is DAMA® a cross-flow plate type heat exchanger that separates the air into which moisture has been added to create cooling, from the air supplied to the conditioned space. The result: supply air that has had no contact with water, cooled almost to ambient wet bulb temperature.
In Direct Evaporative Cooling, a cellulose pad acts as a heat exchanger. The supply air directly contacts water, leaving it cool but laden with moisture problematic for workers and many production environments.
What factors affect human comfort in an industrial setting?
Human comfort is affected by: temperature of air, relative humidity, air motion, percentage of fresh air, personal activity level, and clothing. HMX IDEC addresses temperature, humidity, fresh air supply, and air circulation simultaneously.
Which refrigerant does DAMA® use?
DAMA® uses water (R-718) as its cooling medium. However, no water comes in contact with the output air meaning zero moisture is added to the fresh, cooled air leaving the system. This is completely different from refrigerant-based AC and far cleaner for your facility and the environment.
